International Fur Campaign: GUESS Inc

Week of Action against GUESS, 16th to 23rd June

Activists from many countries took part in the week of action against GUESS from 16th to 23rd June. So far we have received reports of protests at GUESS stores in New York, London, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Milan, Helsinki and Bologna. There were also protests at the company's annual shareholders meeting in Beverly Hills, USA, as well at Guess's European head office in Florence, Italy.

Two more GUESS-franchise stores gave fur-free statements, in Dublin, Ireland, and Montpellier in France, adding to the other stores which did so during the Day of Action last month.

Many thousands more supporters called, emailed and wrote to the company asking them to stop selling real fur and adopt a fur-free policy. The campaign was featured on websites all over the world, such as Czech Republic, Croatia, South Africa and California which led to even more pressure on the company, and which in turn led many thousands more to contact the company. In Croatia, NOVA TV interviewed local campaigners about the GUESS campaign.

We know that with all this pressure, GUESS is having to seriously reconsider its support for the fur trade. With around 800 shops in over 60 countries, it's vital that we keep up the pressure.

We will be planning more coordinated actions in the future, but in the meantime if you can hold a protest, however small or brief, at your local GUESS store, or even just make a complaint and take in some anti-fur information, it will reinforce the message, feel free to contact us for advice, we have leaflets and posters in 6 different languages, and can produce them in other languages if needed. Don't forget also to please keep up the pressure by contacting GUESS, and encouraging others to do so too, and asking them to stop selling fur and adopt a fur-free policy. Remind them of the horrors of the fur trade, and that many of their main rivals such as H&M, Zara and Mango have already taken this compassionate step.
