Fur-Free Shop Policies


Below are the Fur free policies of various shops around the UK. This list is being updated all the time, please help by checking out your local store for real fur and keeping us informed.


ARCADIA GROUP - Includes: Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Miss Selfridges, Outfit, Top Man, Top Shop, Wallis.

Otto Group (Germany) has a Fur Free Policy since April 2014

Bonprix.co.uk - see Otto Group

Burton - has withdrawn the offer of real fur sporrans from its formal hire concession business, replacing them with synthetic fur versions.

Blacks Leisure - said in 2003 they don’t use any real fur on our products.

Boots plc - in email in 2003 said they don’t use real fur.

Curvissa.co.uk- see Otto Group

Debenhams Retail plc - Debenhams does not permit the use of any fur, or any skins of snake, crocodile, alligator or any species specified in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in any of our own bought products.

Dorothy Perkins - see Arcadia Group

Ellis Brigham - Real fur has not been part of our fashion ski wear ranges for all the time I have been a buyer (15 years). We consciously avoid brands who use real fur and will continue to do so in the future.
David Whitlow, Snow sports Apparel Buyer and Marketing Director, Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports. A branch of Ellis Brigham in High St Kensington displayed the logo "Proudly Fur-Free". They also put a link to the CAFT website on their link page, so they are a pretty cool company!!

Emma Somerset covers French Dressing - Emma Somerset has had the policy of not buying fur products since December 2003. I can confirm this includes rabbit products. Emma Somerset trades under a number of different names but is only one company and I can confirm that the no-fur policy applies to all 18 of our stores and to our concessions as well as our own buy. Obviously as we no longer sell real fur products they will not feature on our web-site!

Fenwick Ltd - 2003 Mark Fenwick (Chairman) gave a statement saying Fenwick group policy is opposed to selling real fur products. This statement was reiterated during a telephone conversation in September 2005.

Freemans.com - see Otto Group

Fur Real Friend Toys - Made by Argos Direct E-Commerce. In an email on 21/01/2004, David Underwood, Customer Services Team, confirmed these products use synthetic fur.

Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) - Please note the only fur we sell is from sheep, pigs, goats and cattle that have been bred for meat production, not just for the sake of the skin. No other fur or leather is permitted in products sold by H&M.

House of Fraser - We have a strict no-fur policy and will not accept any non-food animal products unless they are a by-product of the meat industry.
2010 statement

Internacionale/Au Naturale Interiors - I can confirm that all of our goods are clearly marked “FAUX” on the label and that the use of fur does not apply.

Jigsaw - Our position is that we will not allow any products ordered for, or produced under, the Jigsaw label (or any label owned now or in the future by this company or management) to carry real fur, regardless of source. For avoidance of doubt, this includes women’s and girls clothes, accessories of whatever type, and any other products.

Joe Browns Ltd - We have no fur products for sale or on display in the current catalogue or in the next season catalogue. We also have no intention of putting real fur in any products going forward, all the hats etc for next season are man made fibres.

John Lewis Partnership - said in oct 2003 JLP still holds the policy of not selling real fur.

Jones Bootmaker - It is our policy not to sell any product using rabbit fur...I am pleased to reinforce the message that none of the products sold in Jones Bootmaker stores will contain rabbit fur in the future.

Karen Millen - Karen Millen Ltd pledges to never use real fur again in any of our designs. [We] pledge not to sell real fur again in any of our stores.

Mango - The decision of declaring our company "fur-free" for 2005 includes furs as rabbit, fox or minks ones...I confirm you that the dimension of our decision is worldwide.

Moda in Pelle - Moda in Pelle are no longer selling products containing real fur. None of the products on sale in our stores or on our website contain real fur. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Marks and Spencer - As a company we do not use any animal furs.

Miss Selfridge - see Arcadia Group

Moss Bros Group plc - Includes Savoy Taylors Guild, Blazer, Moss Bros, Cecil Gee, The Suit Company, The Brand Centre, Beale and Inman, and Code. Moss Bros Group Plc has a policy of not using fur on any of its own brand products and this will continue in the Autumn/Winter 2005 collections. Where possible, the Group also avoids fur on branded goods.

Nevisport - won’t sell any real fur products in the future. Nov 2001

New Look - 2010 - Animal Fur: We will not use any real fur in our products. This includes both farmed fur and fur which may be a by-product of the meat industry.

Next Retail Ltd - We do not market any products currently that are made from real fur.

Outfit - see Arcadia Group

Quiz Clothing - had fur in but removed and said they wouldn’t sell fur in Dec. 2004

Schuh -  Schuh stores would not be selling any products with real fur from now on.

Selfridges Selfridges no longer sells any fur, and has a fur free policy.

Shelly's - They have a policy not to sell any real fur. Definitive policy will be out in the near future. They cover Barretts shoes and Priceless Ltd

Shoefayre - They have a policy not to sell any real fur. Via email September 2005

Shoon - [Shoon] will undertake no further stocking of rabbit fur, which is the only fur we would consider.

Snow + Rock - [Snow + Rock] have reviewed its policy and will no longer be stocking or purchasing any products made from real animal fur.

Topshop - has a long-standing association with People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and, like all our Brands, is committed to not selling any items made of real fur. Working with the RSPCA and its suppliers, the Brand has also started to track the sourcing of other animal products. This work has been extended to all Brands within our Group.

The following companies have taken fur off the shelves but haven't given a policy pledging not to sell real fur again. Please contact the companies and congratulate them on realising that the public does not want to see real fur on sale but politely ask them to back this up and introduce a fur free policy, to give consumers piece of mind when they are shopping!
